Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Nobel Prize for the Discovery of Insulin: Impact and Legacy

On November 27, 2023, the Toronto Medical Historical Club hosted a celebration of the centenary of the award of the Nobel Prize to Frederick Banting and John James Rickard Macleod for the discovery of insulin.

Open House at Fisher Rare Book Library

The morning opened with an open house at the Fisher Rare Book Library at the University of Toronto which showcased the library’s archival materials on the discovery and early development of insulin. Dr Christoper Rutty provided an introduction to the rich collection.


Symposium – Campbell Conference Facility

A public symposium featured distinguished speakers who reflected on the century of medical research since the insulin discovery, the challenges facing today’s researchers, and prospects for future investigation.
